Our Story

For over four decades, Gordon's Farm & Hardware has been a trusted cornerstone of the Philpot community. What began as a dream in the heart of Buddy Gordon-to establish a hardware store for the people of Philpot-became a reality thanks to the determination and vision of his family.

Originally opening its doors as Gordon's True Value in August 1981, and officially welcoming customers in April 1982, the business was born on the site of a former Tomco concrete company. Though Buddy passed away in November 1980, his legacy was carried forward by his wife, Martha Jo Gordon, who broke ground in 1981 and saw the store open the following year. Martha Jo served as President and owner, with her son Lee Gordon leading operations as Vice President and becoming a beloved fixture in the Philpot community.

Over the years, our business has grown and evolved to meet the needs of our customers. In 1985, Lee Gordon purchased the former Jack Walker True Value store in Owensboro, which is now located on Washington Avenue. Then, in 1994, he expanded again by acquiring the Fireplace Shop, later known as Gordon's Fireplace and Grill Center. Today, the fireplace and grill center operates at our Washington Avenue location in Owensboro, bringing even more value and convenience to our customers.

Throughout the years, Lee managed not only the hardware store but also the family's feed mill, ensuring both businesses thrived side by side. In the early 2000s, Martha Jo entrusted the full operation to Lee, who continued to serve the community with dedication until his retirement in August 2022. Today, Lee's son, Scott Gordon, proudly carries on the family tradition as the current owner of Gordon's Farm & Hardware.

After 42 years as a True Value affiliate, Gordon's Farm & Hardware is now proudly independent, continuing to provide the same exceptional service, quality products, and deep roots in the community that have defined the store for generations.
